Add extra meaning to your Halloween party by using some of our Halloween decorating ideas.  Read on for unique ideas.

Spider/Candy Invitations:

Purchase black and/or orange cards, various black, white and orange scrapbook papers, black pom poms, orange and black striped ribbon and make some fabulous spider and candy decorated invitations.

Tableware and Decor Ideas

Headwaiter Serving Tray - purchase the following items, head mold from a local wig and/or Halloween store and gauze.  Take 10-15 paper towels and 5 gauze strips and dip them coffee and/or tea and let them dry for 2 days.  Then take spray on glue (my favorite) and assemble the head and wine glasses and a few spiders on a silver tray.  (THIS LOOKS AMAZING!!")

Apple Tea lights - (w/ real apples).  Purchase 3-5 apples, tea lights, spider webs and spiders.  Make a hole at the top of the apples, add lemon juice to help with browning, put a tea light inside, spray with glue, add spider webs and spiders and you are done!

Fill a black cauldron with green gelatin, fake hands and eyes and add dry ice (BE VERY CAREFUL). Voila! A great Halloween prop!

Haunted Centerpiece - Take old vases, candleholders. ornate tray, picture frame, metal bowls, pieces of chain etc., black and pewter spray paint, decoupage medium, silver and black glitter, silver candles and dry ice.   Please all of the items on a newspaper, spray paint them black, paint decoupage medium the areas where glitter is desired, let dry and shake off the excess, arrange the item on a tray, add the candles and dry ice.  Add dried roses for a very old gothic effect!

Labor Day Decorating Ides

Kristie Sams-Faulkner, President was featured on NBC - Sunday, August 26, 2007.

Add extra meaning to your Labor Day BBQ by saluting the Labor that built America.  Amaze your friends and family at your last BBQ of the summer by using some of our Labor Day decoring ideas.  Read on for unique ideas.

Flyswatter Invitations:

Purchase old-fashioned flyswatters at a hardware or houseware store.  Personalize store-bought red-and-white-checked invitations with your own party information, or have invitations printed with a red-and-white-checked border. Remember to keep the font fun and casual, this isn't the time for fancy cursive. You could even get the kids to write them!   Attach invitations to flyswatters with bright red ribbon.

Tableware and Decor Ideas

Use small terra-cotta pots to hold flatware wrapped in napkins or to make rustic wind chimes. Use large pots as rose and champagne buckets. The remaining bases of the large pots make excellent charger plates and serving trays for creative condiments.

Terra-cotta pots also make ideal candle or votive holders. Line your garden path with them; place them around the perimeter of the yard or along the edges of the porch.

For a large outdoor barbecue, attach nametags (made from construction paper cut into the shape of hanging T-shirts) to an old-fashioned clothesline with great big wooden clothespins.

Fill an open cooler with crushed ice; prop an array of open pints of ice cream on the surface. Voila! An opened Crayola box of ice cream!

Stock up on mason jars and use to serve iced tea or lemonade...or fill with homemade barbecue sauce, add decorative labels and top them with red-and-white-checked cloth squares tied neatly with kitchen twine. The perfect parting gift for guests!

So, You Want To Be An Event Planner...

Getting Started

At C&C Event Planning & Mgt., Inc., we are constantly asked how to get into the event planning business. In order to try and help people get started, we started an internship program that requires 280 hours of in-office work and assistance at four events in order to complete the program.

The first purpose of this internship program is to provide those interested in our industry with the opportunity to get their feet wet and learn what this field is all about. The second purpose is for all of us at C&C Event Planning & Mgt., Inc. to get to work with new people, obtain fresh ideas and potentially hire one of our interns.

What do you need to know about interning and the event planning business in general? Most people don't make it. In fact, it's not just most people it is the vast majority of people. Why? Because this industry is hard, hard, hard. Most people do not understand that there is no such thing as a 9-5 schedule, nor a "regular" schedule, nor a slow week. Sure, we might have a week that doesn't have a ton of events going on, but that doesn't mean that behind the scenes there isn't plenty to do.

Since we are constantly loading and unloading for jobs and events, sometimes it seems that all we do is organize and then reorganize. Interns help with this process. Those of us who work a particular event on the weekend are not usually unloading on Monday after the weekend's strike. Usually, we have a team in charge of bringing in the props, sorting dirty linens, reorganizing to go supplies and the most fabulous job of all, cleaning votives. Yuck!

So, if you're thinking about interning, or the event planning industry in general, give it some extra consideration. Talk to an intern whose done it. Lots of interns quit before they complete their tenure. That's ok, it's just as much finding out if you like us and our business as finding out if we like you. Should you complete your internship, life will improve a little bit (assuming you have performed well) because you will get a good recommendation from us. In addition, we will either offer you work with C&C Event Planning & Mgt., Inc., or, if that is not available, refer you to others in the industry who need help. Interning is a good way to get your feet wet, make contacts and figure out what your favorite parts of our industry are. To apply for an internship with C&C Event Planning & Mgt., Inc., please send a letter of interest via e-mail.  Do not send attachments.  Please tell me why you are interested in this internship.  Email address is ksamsfaulkner@eventplanning-info.com
